Active Image- Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  85.5km
Total Trip:  2385km

I was pleased my family joined me in Portage la Prairie, MB last night.  I had not seen them for over three weeks and my kids really missed me.  While still in Portage, my crew, my family, and I went out for supper and to the pool; by 10PM I was tired.  Because it would be a shorter trip today I got to sleep in till 7:30.  I had a complimentary breakfast at the hotel and was able to get away about 8:45AM.  It was another hot day.  I covered myself with SPF 9000 (actually being Jenn's SPF 70) which only seems to make your body glisten and attract more sun.

June 23 - Almost Home

Today's Trip:  125km
Total Trip:  2299.5km

Got away from Brandon, MB at 8:30AM this morning.  It was nice to have a South-West wind.  I made it all the way to Spruce Wood Provincial Park before it started to rain.  I stopped to find and put on my rain jacket.  I proceeded to ride through the rain.  Although it was not a heavy rain, a lot of the water just sits on the TransCanada Highway, and I get splashed every time as traffic goes by.

June 21 - O' The Bloody Winds, Again!
Active Image- Sunday, June 21st, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  137km
Total Trip:  2097km

Hurray!  We have officially broken the 2000km mark!  To boot, we are finally in Manitoba!  The wind was incredible today.  Today was quite possibly the longest day on my bicycle; I was pedaling into the wind all day and could not go any faster than 15km/hr!  Every corner I turn I was throttled with the force of wind!  I am absolutely exhausted and my legs are aching as if I was climbing the mountains again.

June 20 - O' The Bloody Wind!
Active Image- Saturday, June 20th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  152km
Total Trip:  1960km

Got up early today, leaving the hotel by 6:30AM making it out of Regina, SK by 7:15AM.  Being Saturday morning, there was little traffic, so I made a swift exit.  The wind today was horrific!  I found myself riding into the wind all bloody day, which seemed physically impossible.  My average speed today was only 15km/hr.

Active ImageDan and Jenn caught up to me, ready with cold water in Indian Head, SK around 11AM.  Jenn hopped on her bike, and slathered half a bottle of SPF 70 all over her arms, and face.  She looked like a certain celebrity, can you guess who?

Active Image- Friday, June 19th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  --
Total Trip:  1808km

My third rest day on the tour: it was a lazy and relaxing day.  I slept in until 8AM, heading out for lunch around 11AM to "Ricky's Restaurant".  We spent a couple hours at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum learning all about Saskatchewan from millions of years ago to present day.

Had my second phone interview with Ian Shanley from the Winnipeg Sun as he has been keeping progress on my trip.  You can follow this link to listen to my first interview; when Ian provides us with the link of the interview, Dan will add it to my blog.

June 18 - Fastest Ride EVER
Active Image- Thursday, June 18th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  71km
Total Trip:  1808km

We all slept in a wee bit today.  It being a shorter trip today, I was anticipating a quick commute to Regina, SK.  I had a coffee with Suzi at the local Tim Horton's this morning.  Said good bye to her and wished her well on her journey.  She is spending an extra day in Moose Jaw today to do some sightseeing, though from what I gather it has been raining for most of the day.

I actually left Moose Jaw at 8:30AM.  I thought I would have had a West wind, though it turned out to be a North wind which slowed my cycling to 20 km/hr.  The traffic was heavier today; there seemed to be more sleeping deer on the side of the road.

June 17 - The Car Lives!
Active Image- Wednesday, June 17th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  127km
Total Trip:  1737km

Got up at 6Am this morning, and I was pleased the car started.  Not too sure what was wrong with it, but perhaps, like my own body, it was just too tired to go on.  The car worked fine today.  Let's cross our fingers!  Suzi, from England, was sharing a camp site with us.  She left about 10 minutes before me.  I departed the camp site at 6:55AM and it was getting warm already.

June 16 - Heavy Headwinds

Active Image- Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 -

Today's Trip:  124km
Total Trip:  1610km

We got away earlier this morning, thanks to Suzi; left around 7AM.  It was cooler to ride, but by 9AM it was already hot.  We were in Gull Lake, SK for about an hour or so, where Suzi and I stopped for a pee break.

There was a tonne of roadkill today, primarily gophers.  We had to dodge them continuously.  In the mean time, Dan and Jenn disassembled the tent and picked up my water and ice then caught up to us around 9:15AM.

Left Medicine Hat at 7:50AM and made it to the Alberta-Saskatchewan border by 11:30AM.  We stopped for a moment at Walsh, AB, then took some pics at the border.  There was lots of roadkill this time: gophers, raccoons, badgers, deer.  Traffic was steady with a paved shoulder most of the way.
