| June 20 - O' The Bloody Wind! |
- Saturday, June 20th, 2009 -Today's Trip: 152km Total Trip: 1960km Got up early today, leaving the hotel by 6:30AM making it out of Regina, SK by 7:15AM. Being Saturday morning, there was little traffic, so I made a swift exit. The wind today was horrific! I found myself riding into the wind all bloody day, which seemed physically impossible. My average speed today was only 15km/hr. Dan and Jenn caught up to me, ready with cold water in Indian Head, SK around 11AM. Jenn hopped on her bike, and slathered half a bottle of SPF 70 all over her arms, and face. She looked like a certain celebrity, can you guess who? We took a break at Wolseley, SK -- I was parched so I had a bottle of water and Iced Tea. Dan was trying to catch a connection to the internet, Jenn was slathering more SPF 70 on her face, and all the while I was passed out sprawling over the picnic table. For lunch, I found myself more thirsty than hungry, so I settled for one plain (yet fresh) bun with water and no cream cheese. Jenn switched positions with Dan, now he was on the bike. Dan asked if I was OK with him going his own pace, I said sure. He disappeared into the horizon shortly thereafter. He arrived in Grenfell 10 minutes before I did. The schedule originally had us retire at Grenfell, SK but I felt I had to press on. I felt I could do more. I told Jennifer, "I'm going to ride today until I fall over." It was another 27km to Broadview, SK and another 25km to Whitewood, SK. We barely made it to Broadview upright. The hotels in the town were booked solid, so we found a very inexpensive campground; it was FREE! Upon investigation, we found no sources of running water. To boot, the porta-potty is locked up. I can see myself having to act out a Charmin commercial tonight in the woods. We had supper at another local diner. My dinner was dismal to say the least; I ended up mooching off Dan and Jenn's Chinese/Western Smorg. The three of us are stinky, sticky, and exhausted. Good night. -D'Arcy PS. We are finally exiting this barren province tomorrow. ![]() |
